PEKAN KESENIAN BETAWI 2008 TO CELEBRATE

JAKARTA’S ANNIVERSARY

· To celebrate Jakarta’s anniversary, the DKI Jakarta’s Goverment Office of Tourism and Culture is having Pekan Kesenian Betawi 2008 from

· 16^th June 2008 to 22^nd June 2008 Final Evening Celebration in 22^nd June 2008 at Istora Senayan.

· at Anjungan Betawi Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, with

· Fauzi Bowo, the Governor of DKI Jakarta said, “Pekan Kesenian Betawi will be a great opportunity to promote the Betawi custom and tradition to the world in addition of Jakarta’s anniversary celebration”. He also added, “We also hope that the young generation of Indonesia, especially in Jakarta will be more familiarize with Betawi tradition where they live in.”

· Pekan Kesenian Betawi is held for one week and will be opened by Fauzi Bowo, the Governor of Jakarta.

· This one week event consist of Short Storytelling Festival, Betawi Poetry Competition, Betawi Food Festival, Lenong Betawi Festival as well as a theater performance “Muhammad Husni Thamrin” by Teater Koma at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta and closed with Final Evening Celebration at Istora Senayan.

· Adhiyaksa Daud, the Minister of Youth and Sport said, “We fully support this event. I recommend that other province to make the similar event, not to compete to each other, but to endorse our prestigious culture to the world. With that spirit, let’s introduce our culture. This is the great time for young generation as to appreciate our own culture as our country’s identity.”

· Some Indonesian’s famous entertainer will take part in the Final Evening Celebration, including Bolot, Jojon, Malih, Omas, Mandra, Rano Karno, Atun, Ungu, Nidji and Agnes Monica. Special performance will be presented by Fauzi Bowo, Adiyaksi Daud, and Sutiyoso, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta, who will be singing medley Betawi’s traditional songs.
